The Vespa GS160 was the logical successor to the GS150, adopting the body style introduced by the 1958 VNA 125. It had a more rigid frame which was simpler in construction. It introduced the brilliant spare wheel mount under the left side panel, and the front suspension was a major improvement over that of the GS150 and smaller bikes. It was introduced in 1962, updated with the behind-the-legshields glovebox in '63 and was so popular that it delayed the late 1964 introduction of the SS180 in many markets.
