Differences Between VS4 and VS5

VS4 (slightly modded)

The main differences between these two models are summed up in the following points:

---New high turbulence cylinder head with compression ratio of 1:6.5 and advance of 27 degrees +/- 1 degree [the VS4 had the same compression ratio but with a 31 degree spark advance]

---Improved carburation.

---Reinforced piston with new skirt profile.

---Improved electrical plant with higher photometric characteristics.

---Crankshaft with roller cage. [small end, upgraded from a bronze bushing]

---Wheels with cast brake drums.[VS4 brake drums are hidden from sight behind the wheels where VS5 wheels are just rims that bolt to the outer edges of the drums allowing a lighter combination and better cooling]

---Dampers with oil seal instead of rubber washers.

VS5 (bone stock) Not mentioned are esthetic changes such as:

One piece headlight ring

Introduction of the clamshell speedometer

Underseat helmet hook

Addition of a character line along the lower edge of the front mudguard.

New front mudguard crest.

Addition of gray piping on the seat cover

And midway through 1960 the change to the GS160 style taillight.
